CAMERA CONSTRUCTION
2nd grade artists are currently working on building camera sculptures out of all found materials, including cardboard, cups, paper towel rolls, corks and whatever else we found in the art studio closet! They are coming out amazing and we cannot wait to share!
WINTER MURAL
The artists in 2nd grade collaborated with other classes in the school to create this winter mural. They made all the houses and community buildings in this mural using collage techniques!

PAINTED PORTRAITS OF ENDANGERED ANIMALS
Students read and looked closely at the book Hello, Hello by Brendan Wenzel with Ms. L and Beth. We discussed the poetic and beautiful ways Wenzel illustrated the book to showcase the special qualities in these animals. We also talked about the endangered animals he chose to illustrate. Students each chose an endangered or vulnerable animal to paint a portrait of.

ENDANGERED ANIMAL PAINTINGS
First and second grade artists first drew toy animals to become familiar with various techniques on how to draw animals. We practiced using shapes and contour lines to draw the gesture and pose of the animal.
PAPER WEAVINGS
2nd grade artists first painted their own unique papers, thinking about texture and warm/ cool colors.
They then wove in layers of various types of papers to create these woven works of art.
RADIAL SYMMETRY INVESTIGATIONS
3rd grade artists have been experimenting with creating radial symmetry designs. Some have been stamping and some have been painting. These investigations will lead the students to a printmaking project that involves symmetrical patterns and designs.

PAINTED PAPER COLLAGES
In the art studio we looked closely at illustrations made by author Eric Carle. Artists in 3rd grade chose an insect or animal. While sketching, they noticed shapes, colors and textures. Then they painted unique papers to use for a collage. Some students worked independently and some collaborated on creating settings for their collages.

COLLAGE INSPIRED BY HENRI MATISSE
In the art studio, we read the book , Matisse’s Garden. Students learned about Matisse’s collages and the techniques he used when “drawing with scissors”. Matisse used bold colors and organic positive and negative shapes in his artworks. His collages were inspired by places he had visited and memories from his life.
